Taskeen was born and raised in Botriver. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Operations Management and is in the process of obtaining a Master's degree in Supply Chain Management.

She cares deeply about the development of Botriver and the local people. Taskeen wants the young people of the community to be able to fulfil their potential and create a better life for themselves, their family and generations to come. Above all, she wants to be a role model, to inspire and to show that there is hope.

Taskeen supports Friends of Botriver with her knowledge and insights into the community. She helps build a bridge between our students and us. In this way, we ensure that nothing stands in the way of their goals.

  • Tell us a little bit about yourself and your role within Friends of Botriver.

My name is Taskeen Williams. I am 27 years old and was born in Botriver. Botriver is a small community in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. I volunteer as a culture advisor at Friends of Botriver.

What is your impact as a volunteer on the Botriver community?

Building a bridge between the community and more specifically the students and Friends of Botriver is my impact on the Botriver community. This is to improve the relationship between the students and FoB. Whether it is advice on behaviour, approaches or ways of doing things.

What do you enjoy the most about volunteering at FoB?

I love to see people succeed in life. I love the interaction between me and FoB, giving my input on a situation or topic and also learning skills from the FoB team that I can apply in my everyday life and work environment.

I am happy to see how the program helps our students develop over time and to see them achieve their goals. I also like the fun activities we do. For example, having cooking sessions together and having meetings in restaurants where people can feel relaxed and comfortable to communicate rather than in a formal setting.

Also, knowing that someone is trying to improve their circumstances and succeeding, which means that person can come back to the community and share the skills and knowledge they have gained.
