  • Cooking session

The session focused on 'healthy eating', where we discovered delicious recipes and learned essential culinary skills to nourish the body while fostering a lifelong commitment to well-being.

The session was rounded off with a keynote speech by a renowned nutrition expert from Cape Town. She led an inclusive and entertaining discussion on the evening's theme, showing that healthy eating is not about money, but about the choices we make every day.

  • University visits

We had the opportunity to take our high school students on an insightful visit to Stellenbosch University and the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

This experience serves as a catalyst for their aspirations and helps them in their decision making process.

  • Robben Island

Visiting Robben Island offered our students a unique, immersive learning experience.

Stepping into the past where figures like Nelson Mandela were imprisoned fosters empathy, critical thinking, and a sense of social responsibility.

It helps our students understand historical injustices and become more informed global citizens committed to equality and social change.

  • Math-Bootcamps

During COVID, Friends of Botriver organized two math bootcamps, empowering students and teachers to address pandemic-induced learning gaps.

The bootcamps help bridging educational disparities, fostering community, and promoting academic excellence.

Mentorship Program

Mentorship

Our mentorship program is built on the belief that empowering young minds with guidance and support can ignite their potential and shape their future.

At Friends of Botriver we remain committed to nurturing these invaluable mentorship relationships, fostering personal growth, and enabling our mentees to thrive.

Real-Work-Experience

Real-Work-Experience brings successful professionals from various industries to share their career journey and insights with our mentees.

Our mentees have the opportunity to learn about the challenges and opportunities that come with different careers, as well as gain valuable advice and tips for achieving their own career goals.

Get-together’s

Our regular in-person get-together's exemplified the power of the connections between mentors and mentees and the positive impact they have.

I thoroughly enjoy the sessions I have with Antonia. It’s a new experience that continuously broadens my knowledge. Every session feels like a rush of adrenaline. Our conversations cover a variety of topics, and each time I learn something new. I’m truly thankful for the opportunity to have her as my mentor. Her guidance has been invaluable, and I wouldn’t exchange her for the world. Antonia’s mentoring has not only expanded my horizons but also provided me with a deeper understanding of different cultures and perspectives. Her dedication and insights make every session truly enriching.

“My first meeting of the mentorship program, I was nervous because it was my first experience zooming. I got used to it over time. My first mentor was Elke and she was very presentable and knew what to talk about. I remember our first topic was about how to overcome poverty and it was nice to talk about it. Elke helped me to draw up my own CV and talked with me about the benefits of networking. Over time Max became my mentor. Max and I understand each other a lot because we both like the same things. During our first zoom we shared each other's vision board and it was very interesting to hear what another person's dreams and goals are in life. The mentorship program helps me a lot with my communication skills and made me more confident.”

Franco Patterson - Mentee

When I started with the mentoring program I was anxious and extremely shy to meet new people. That all changed because I soon realised that with the program I was able to learn that interacting with people from a different country and different cultures is like entering a whole different world. I got the chance to get an insight of how different we live our lives but to each it's fascinating in a different way. I am thankful that I got the chance to be a part of something that makes a difference in the way I interact with people but also forces me to step outside of my comfort zone. Sandra is my mentor and with each of our sessions I get the chance to learn something new about her or where she is from which is totally awesome.
