The incentive lies especially in supporting young people in perspective and revealing their possibilities. Through the permanent exchange Sandra wants to be available for any conversation in a pleasant atmosphere. For her it is important that the fun is at the forefront and that both parties can learn from each other through the different life situations.

Sandra is happy to be a part of the organisation and wishes to get an insight on the ground in the coming years.

  • Tell us a little about yourself and your role within Friends of Botriver.

Hey, my name is Sandra. I’m currently 22 years old and work in auditing in Frankfurt. For many years I have been in a partnership with a young girl in Zimbabwe through Plan International Deutschlans e.V.. Through the programme, I notice the situation in Africa. To further support the continent, I would like to create a bipolar knowledge exchange through FoB.

What do you enjoy the most about volunteering at Friends of Botriver?

I enjoy working with people the most. It's a pleasure to get in touch with a completely different mindset and a new culture parallel to the usual everyday life. The themes, issues and questions broaden my mentee's horizons and mine. It's fun to work on tasks in an open-minded way and to build up a real friendship.

Why do you think the mentorship program is beneficial?

Everyone shows consideration for each other and nevertheless a lot of effort is put in. Florian cares a lot about the project, and gives us the right backing ("Thank you Florian!"). In addition, the project is a great opportunity to get to know people on the other side of the world and to do some good.
