  • Tell us a little bit about yourself and your role within Friends of Botriver.

Hi, I’m Karl, and I'm 25 years old. I became a mentor at Friends of Botriver in February of this year after learning about the program through my cousin and hearing about the exchanges he had been having with his mentee. I also decided to contribute and quickly became part of this great young program.

What do you enjoy the most about volunteering at Friends of Botriver?

I enjoy the variety of exchanges and like to develop a bond with my mentee while working on his future goals. Hearing about everyday life in South Africa interests me greatly. I believe that my mentee also enjoys the exchange while learning more about Europe and Germany in particular. I would also truly enjoy visiting South Africa in the future.

Why do you think the mentorship program is beneficial?

I believe that new experiences broaden your horizon and new perspectives help you think about problems from another perspective. The Friends of Botriver program is beneficial to both parties and can be the beginning of great friendships. We both learn from each other while having a good time working on future goals.
